A rainy & windy Las Vegas desert elopement | Casey & Bunky
When I first received Casey and Bunky's inquiry, I got giddy, I just knew we were going to create magic. I didn't know at that point it would be a rainy, windy, cloudy evening in the Las Vegas desert, but I knew this one was going to be a special. Casey is from South Africa and South Africa was my first country abroad. So, it holds a very special place in my heart, just like this couple and their sweet, secret elopement! Casey planned the ENTIRE, gorgeous elopement in just a couple of weeks! I was beyond impressed and everything turned out perfectly, I'd say even the wind and the rain were perfect.
Their jobs brought them together. Bunky was so interested in everything Casey had to say. They talked for hours and hours on their first couple of dates. Bunky knew Casey was special and never wanted her to leave, so a trip to Vegas was in order and a secret elopement planned!
I'm so happy they found each other and found me via Instagram and chose me to be their photographer! I loved every moment of their day and by the end felt like we were life long friends! A huge congratulations to the two of you and much love in your journey through life. May you always be happy but in the rare times of sadness, lean on one another! Choose each other each and every day, marriage isn't easy, but it's the most beautiful commitment life has to offer!
Getting ready photos are some of my favorite to capture. These images look a little different when it's just the two of them, but they are the most special. You can feel and see the excitement, nerves and love in each of the images. Bunky had to get a little help from his bride, on tying his tie. Thank goodness she was there. :)
Casey was simply stunning in her J.Crew, pok-a-dotted, mermaid gown. Bunky did great zipping her into it. Casey stated: 'you break it, you buy it', so he was EXTRA careful! :) Just look at the love they share and the excitement for the day ahead. They are glowing!
We met the wedding officiant, Bonnie (Weddings by Bonnie) out in the middle of the desert. The location we had picked was getting pelted with rain and wind, so we tried to beat the storm down the mountain. We pulled off the side of the road, got to the perfect, desert elopement location and it started to rain. Bonnie did a lovely, short and sweet ceremony, they exchanged rings, said 'I do', kissed and they were married! The rain wasn't going to stop us, or them from devoting and committing their lives to one another. Yes, it was windy, cold and wet, but when you're happy and filled with love, nothing else in the whole world matters!
Bonnie is one of the sweetest ladies around and knows everything there is to know about weddings and elopements in Las Vegas. She was such a gem to work with! I'm so happy she was there and performed this ceremony. She had no problem hiking out to where ever I decided was the prettiest spot, with the best view! It's not everyday you find a couple and officiant willing to go where the artist says!
The light was fading, the storm getting stronger, but it was too perfect not to photograph! And they were glowing!! I was wiping my lens off like a ninja in between hoping over bushes to get the best angles. I was slightly nervous my camera would stop working or the spots would be too bad, but something was on our side this rainy evening and they turned out perfect. When there is love, there is a way, and we made this happen. More than that, we OWNED it! I pushed my skills, shot faster than I ever have in my life and was able to produce work I'm so very proud of. Sometimes there's no time to think, you have to go with it and capture all that is unfolding around you. Just let it happen!
Casey and Bunky, thank you endlessly, for allowing me to be there to celebrate and capture your love. I'm sorry it wasn't the nicest day we've had in the desert, but it was still perfect. And as they say, rain on your wedding day is the best of luck! Your 'desert storm' wedding was my favorite! I wish you all the happiness and love in your life together and can't wait for our paths to cross again!
