Gunnar & Shannon | St. Boniface Catholic Church | Airport Road Vineyards Reception | Southeast Iowa
Gunnar and Shannon were both raised in Southeast Iowa. However, they spent most of their years dating from a distance. Gunnar was in the service, which took him across country and away from Shannon. They were engaged when Gunnar was home for Christmas in 2014 before he had to leave again. Being separated is never easy, but their love for each other was strong and they easily survived the distance. It makes those moments together, riding in Gunnar's truck or just hanging out, that much more special. The endless love they share led them to this day, a day they, along with their family and friends, will surely never forget!
Shannon got ready in the basement of the Catholic Church in Farmington, Iowa, making sure to steer clear of Gunnar and the boys. Shannon's mom, Colleen, and Shannon's two older sisters, Jessica and Kelly helped her get into her lace, mermaid gown. She was glowing, absolutely stunning.
Once she was ready, Shannon walked out to Gunnar who was positioned under the trees outside of the church, waiting to see her for the first time that day. Shannon and Gunnar were both so excited and could not contain their excitement to see each other. Their love and excitement was obvious the second Gunnar turned around to see Shannon.
The wedding took place at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington, Iowa, at 2PM. It was a lovely afternoon for a wedding. It was a fairly typical Iowa summer day, it was humid and it was hot! But no amount of warmth or humidity could stop these two from having the loveliest of days.
On the way to the reception in Mt. Pleasant, we stopped by Shimek Forest for some lovely tree lined photos of the couple and their wedding party. Luckily it wasn't a super busy day, we only had to move the party a couple of times for cars to pass. Thank goodness for Iowa livin'.
The reception took place at the Airport Road Vineyards in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. This reception hall is one of the largest in Southeast Iowa and has wonderful natural lighting. The decoration were purple, yellow and white. The flowers in the middle of the tables were in gallon glass milk bottles, which was super fitting since Shannon works for the family diary business. Veggies, crackers and cheese lined the tables as guests arrived.
Shannon's dad, Ralph, gave the welcome speech. He said he wouldn't have these three wonderful, gorgeous daughters to marry off, if he hadn't married his hot wife, Colleen. Everyone laughed and Colleen's face turned all shades of red! The best man, Brandon, gave a short but awesome speech, ending with a little 'present' for the couple for their honeymoon. It was Gunnar's baby blanket that he used till he was 11 or 12 was it, maybe 15? The whole place was rolling with laugher.
The couple cut the pie, instead of cutting the cake. Shannon and the church ladies spent hours making these beauties by hand! Nothing beats a homemade pie!
The father-daughter dance was an emotional one. Ralph gave away his last and youngest daughter. It's never easy giving away a daughter, however, I feel the baby would be the hardest. This moment, between them was so special and absolutely perfect. There were tears of happiness and joy and love.
The music by Humphery's Sound lasted well into the evening. The guests enjoyed slow dances, the Cha Cha Slide as well as other wedding favorites. Even the kids got involved, probably the cutest thing the whole night!
I was able to sneak the couple out of the party for a few minutes just as the sun was beginning to set. These are my absolute favorite shots, so calmed and relaxed. I love letting the couple have a few moments, to celebrate and breathe and enjoy being married. It's so important to have this time built into into your wedding day and they even thanked me for it! :)
It makes it easier on me when there's a gorgeous Iowa view with fields as far as the eye can see AND a vineyard in the 'backyard' of the venue.
These moments were so special and absolutely beautiful!
Thank you Gunnar and Shannon for allowing me to be a part of your wedding day. Your day was perfect, it was all about your love and about sharing it with those you love. You compliment each other perfectly. I'm so excited for the two of you and the life you are starting together. I can't wait to see what the future holds.
Keep smiling, loving life and loving each other,
